Beach closures in Torvaianica in 2024

The beaches of Torvaianica are prohibited for swimming in spring-summer 2024. The four affected beaches are located near the ditches: Pratica di Mare, Crocetta, Rio Torto, and Orfeo.

In Torvaianica, a municipality of Pomezia, there are four beaches with a total swimming ban. Therefore, bathing will not be permitted on nearly two kilometres of the total nine-kilometre coast. The prohibited beaches for the spring-summer 2024 season are the four located near the ditches: Pratica di Mare, Crocetta, Rio Torto, and Orfeo.

Swimming ban and details of affected areas

The swimming ban was enacted with ordinance 10 of April 23 by the Municipality of Pomezia. It pertains to four areas of the Torvaianica coastline. The four specific beaches concerned are:

• 250m to the left and 250m to the right of Fosso Pratica.
• 250m to the left and 250m to the right of Fosso della Crocetta.
• 250m to the left and 250m to the right of Fosso Orfeo.
• 250m to the left of Fosso Rio Torto.

The prohibition will remain in effect, as stated in the ordinance, “until further results of bacteriological analysis conducted by Arpa Lazio on marine water samples taken from the coast.”

The ordinance also “orders that the Maintenance Service of the Works and Public Works Section of the Municipality of Pomezia, provide for the posting of suitable signage indicating the areas suitable for bathing with an indication of the water quality. As well as the posting of suitable signage indicating areas unfit for swimming as indicated in the note from the Lazio Region – Regional Environment Directorate – Climate Change, Energy Transition and Sustainability… that is attached to this Ordinance and forms an integral and substantial part of it.”

New measures for the summer beach season

The Municipality of Pomezia also reports that this year there will be eight beaches that will have a lifeguard station from June 15 to September 15. The same beaches will also be accessible for the disabled through walkways. Here is the list:

• Station No. 1: located at Via Brema on the left of the area handed over to the Air Force – Sea passage No. 9.
• Station No. 2: located at Via Nizza to the south of Station No. 1 and to the north of the “Tinga” establishment, Sea passage No. 9.
• Station No. 3: located at Via Positano and Via Ischia – Sea passage No. 28.
• Station No. 4: located at Viale France to the south of the “Bagni Belvedere” establishment – Sea passage No. 37.
• Station No. 5: located at Viale France to the north of the “Piccolo Porto” establishment – Sea passage No. 40.
• Station No. 6: located at Via Seville between the “Miami Beach” establishment and the “Univelica” establishment – Sea passage No. 46.
• Station No. 7: located at Via Belgrade – Sea passage No. 56.
• Station No. 8: located at Via Prague, sea passage No. 58.
